Facebook is great for education and information, but Twitter is where it's at to impact legislation. Join our statewide tweet fests to maximize your impact!
Twitter moves a lot faster than Facebook, and it's followed closely by staffers and legislators in Austin.
I don't have a Twitter account. How do I sign up?
Never tweeted? No problem! Learn how here! It's a short, step-by-step tutorial walking you through the process of setting up your account, creating your first tweet, and finding other people on Twitter. But really, Twitter is pretty self-explanatory. You likely won't need the video at all!
But I don't like Twitter!
It's not about what you do and don't like! It's about maximizing our impact via every tool we've got! We've made it as easy for you as possible. You can set up your account and ignore it until we have our monthly Tweet Fests, or you can become a regular Tweeter! You may find you like it!
Do I have to use my phone?
No! You can tweet from your phone or your personal computer. All you need is access to www.twitter.com.
What's a Tweet Fest?
A tweet fest is a planned Twitter event. During a specified time frame, we get as many people as possible to use the same hashtag. If you get enough people on it, it creates a buzz and gets attention we might not otherwise have had!
What's a hash tag?
You've probably seen them before. It's when you put the # symbol in front of a phrase. It creates a special category in Twitter so that folks can track what is being said on that topic. For example, a popular hash tag is #txlege. If you look up that hash tag on Twitter, you'll find lots of comments about the Texas Legislature. It's the number one tag for politics in Texas, and it's watched by every office. By the way, that includes liberals, so reading tweets in this category can be quite entertaining and/or educational!
When do we have a Tweet Fest?
We are going to coordinate monthly tweet fests to coincide with our monthly tea party meetings. We'll choose a hash tag for everyone to use, and we'll develop sample tweets based on the topic we're covering. That list of sample tweets will be provided at the meetings, via email, and on our website. We'd like folks to use them from 6-9pm on our meeting nights (the 2nd Monday of every month). All you have to do is copy and paste!
I can't/don't go to NETTP meetings. Can I participate?
You certainly don't have to be at our meetings to participate. You can tweet from anywhere! And we are designing the tweets to be good for everyone, not just NETTP. Our goal is always to grow the statewide movement towards liberty.
Do we have enough people to make a difference?
Every person helps! As we already mentioned, we are hoping to take this statewide, and we've invited a lot of other tea party groups to join in. Feel free to invite friends! Everyone can tweet!
When is our first tweet fest?
Monday, May 8, we will host our first tweet fest. Our speaker is Jim Graham from Texas Right To Life, so our tweets will focus on the pro-life movement. Every tweet should include the hashtags #txlege and #prolifeTX.
What do I tweet?
Every month we will let you know what to tweet. For our first tweet fest, we've listed below 3 sample tweets with graphics (graphics get more attention). They've already been tested to mamke sure they fit into the 140 character limit, and the hashtags have already been included.
Download the graphic (right click and choose save picture as), copy the text (highlight and then hit control + c), add the text to a tweet by pasting it into your Twitter post (control + v), and then attach the graphic. The graphic can be used with or without the text, or not at all. Or of course you can write your own!
With 95 Repubs, it shouldn't be this difficult to pass conservative legislation. #txlege #prolifeTX
EVERY. DAY. OF. THE. YEAR. 150 unborn babies die in Texas. This is our holocaust. #txlege #prolifeTX
- TX prolife rank dropped from 5 to 17 in US. Repubs campaign prolife but don't act on it. Stop trusting lies/fake mailers. #txlege #prolifeTX
